GLOBAL SPIRIT is a showcase for the tried and true musical formula of Karunesh. With an arsenal of different instruments at his disposal (flutes, drums, sitar, didgeridoo, violin, synthesizers), the artist concocts spirited tunes that range from quiet, Asian-hued and introspective to celebratory tribal dance anthems. The latter can be felt in the happy energy of the African-themed "Kubula Ma" and the mystical dance beats of "Bombay Pure." Chants and panflutes commingle in moody trancescapes on "Native Rituals" and "Earthsong" (which is repeated later on the CD as a reprise) evokes a sense of peace and connection with the earth. Joining the multi-instrumentalist are guest artists Govi, Nicholas Kern and Don Lax. Overall, this is a great collection of contemporary worldbeat songs. |
Global Spirit is a masterful blend of exotic world rhythms and vocals combined with visionary textures and melodies. With Global Spirit, Karunesh wanted to create a universal connection between all people and cultures. He blends vocals from India, Australia, Africa, Native America and the Middle East into an instrumental bed that features didgeridoo, violin, sitar, various word percussion instruments, Chinese temple flutes, bamboo flutes and many more.
With the advent of modern recording techniques, technological advancements and the communication revolution, musical barriers are being broken. As cultures are becoming more and more intertwined, a new music is emerging. Karunesh—with his timeless melodies—is on the cutting edge of this stylistic merging of traditional world music and contemporary sounds. Some call it worldbeat, other world fusion, but under any name it is the future of music.
