Review:
This as well as Buddha Spirit 2 are fine additions to your New Age collection. They have a similar vibe yet are undoubtedly different. Anael's voice is like flowing silk and takes you to that special place where peace resides. The bells clear the air and set the stage for Anael's vocals and Bradfield's musical contribution. He has a nice touch. The entire album is very pleasant. It is hard to choose between the 2 Buddha Spirit albums because they are both quite good. I'd say if you have the money, get them both. Namaste.
With majesty and sacred reverence, Anael & Bradfield's "Buddha Spirit" draws the listener into their own inner temple to experience firsthand the spiritual attributes of the five meditating (Dhyani) Buddhas. This music has a sublimely smooth and effortless flow, evidently a deeply heart-centered effort, all while incorporating the Sanskrit sacred syllables ("Om, Ah, Hung, Tram" etc., sung using the Tibetan pronunciations), and the well-placed ring of tingsha (hand cymbals) and drilbhu (bell) which represent the masculine and feminine and are the primary tools of wisdom and compassion. Bradfield's transcendent score and Anael's pure, almost elemental tones, come together to create a magnificent album of compositions which simultaneously carry on this timeless and carefully observed Eastern tradition and also reinvent their sound with exquisitely refined Western melodies. It is believed that reciting the mantras will bring one closer into alignment with the aspects of the associated Buddha, assisting in the eventual revealing and awakening of the Buddha-nature hidden inside the man. These mantras take the listener on an introductory visit to each of the energetic realms of the five meditating Buddhas, where we are allowed to remain and partake of the specific gifts of each of these idealistic masters, with combined-element pieces that greatly enhance the overall experience. This is an excellent meditation album, as well as having benefit towards healing efforts and overall deep relaxation. It is also the first offering in what is to be a trilogy exploring the various deities within the Buddhist tradition.
